STARKE COUNTY – The Starke County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens that with warmer weather approaching, being alert for motorcyclists on the road can save lives.
They state that the “Look Twice, Save a Life” campaign is a crucial motorcycle safety campaign that reminds drivers to be extra vigilant for motorcycles on the road.
Because motorcycles are smaller and can be harder to see, especially in blind spots or intersections, taking a second look before turning or changing lanes can prevent accidents and save lives.
Starke County Sheriff’s Office shared what they called key safety tips for both drivers and motorcyclists:
For drivers, they recommend always checking your blind spots, signaling before changing lanes, and allowing motorcycles the full width of the lane. Drivers are urged to be extra cautious at intersections, where many motorcycle-related accidents occur.
For motorcyclists, Starke County Sheriff’s Office recommends wearing bright clothing, using lights to increase visibility, and always follow traffic laws, with a reminder that defensive riding can help a motorcyclist anticipate potential hazards.
According to the United States Department of Transportation, May is Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.
